Remember whenMany, many articles ago we talked about the new Connexions Service. Time has flown by and nearly everyone will have heard of Connexions through their schools, colleges or local centres. Over the next few months we will be looking at articles related to Connexions, along with the services, information and advice they can offer. This article will give you an introduction to the Connexions services available. |
For those of you who aren't sure, Connexions is a service especially for young people aged between 13 - 19. It is difficult to describe exactly what Connexions does because it does all sorts! It provides information, advice and guidance on life issues affecting young people. This could include learning, careers, housing, money, health, relationships, getting active (leisure activities) and personal rights information. The Connexions website has three main sections and two of these have some great information aimed at young people like yourselves!
This part of the service is about helping you to get in touch with Connexions directly. There are several different ways including telephone, text, web chat, email and face-to-face (getting in touch with local advisers) contact. There is a call back system, email postcards for your friends and lots of information available on their website.
Something else that we will be looking at in more detail is the Connexions Card. This is available to 16-19 year olds and is a secure smart card. It enables you to collect reward points for learning, work-based training or voluntary activities. It also has a range of discounts that you can use when shopping etc. It is available to young people in England.
You may have already started seeing someone from Connexions. They can be called different things in different areas, but they are mainly known as Connexions Advisers or Personal Advisers. They are there to help you and you can contact them through your school and local centres. So you can access information through local or national contacts or both! Isn't it great people are falling over themselves to help YOU!
We will be hearing about a young person's experience of using some of the services we have introduced today. So it's not just extremely ancient people like myself, writing about your life .get it straight from another young person experiencing similar issues to you!
So
tune in next month for the next instalment!
Good Luck
