Feel like you're deserted on a desert island with people you don't know
Leaping into the world of work is sometimes like stepping into the unknown.
After all, you might not have had a job like this before. What will you
be asked to do? How will you do it? When you're competing for a job, what
will other people have that you don't? |
One of the most difficult things about finding work is your interview. If it's your first one, it's difficult to know what to expect or what type of people you will be competing against. One of the most important things is to know what employers want. We have already looked at this in a previous article. So this article aims to give you the information about keyskills and how they can help you succeed at work. So read this article and make sure that when it comes to the interview ..you're not the first to be voted off the island!
Keyskills are not just about work. They can help you to do well in education, training and in life in general. You use skills already in your everyday life, you just might not have recognised the name for them! You use skills to work out if you have enough money to go out with your mates, to become the next David Beckham in your local football team or even when you are checking the web for the cheapest CD on offer!
Keyskills cover the following :-
Communication
Application of number
Information Technology
Working with others
Improving your own learning and performance
Problem Solving
It might all look over complicated at the moment, but don't worry. Over the next few months we will be writing an article on each topic explaining them in more detail and giving you some useful web links.
You can take keyskills as a separate qualification and they are also important parts of other courses such as A Levels, NVQ's etc. The other bit of good news is that you can take these whether you are in full-time education or on a work based training programme (e.g Advanced Modern Apprecticeship). They can be studied at different levels and this can be helpful for you because there will be a level that is best for you! There are five levels of keyskills :-
Levels 1 -4 : These levels are most likely to be used in Modern Apprenticeships, schools and colleges
Level 5 : A single, combined personal skills development unit
Use the websites to find out more information or have a chat with your careers/connexions adviser. But the most important thing that you can do if you want to learn more about keyskills is
