Quality Assessment Reports

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education assesses the quality of the higher education that it funds in England. There are similar arrangements in other parts of the UK. The results of these assessments are known as HEFC Quality Assessment Reports and one part of each report is an Assessment of the Student Learning Experience and Student Achievement. Reporting started in 1992/3 and focuses on a department within a higher education institution.

The Assessment of the Student Learning Experience and Student Achievement covers the following aspects of provision:-

The early assessments were based on a three point scale: excellent, satisfactory and unsatisfactory. This was later replaced by a four point scale for each of the aspects of provision shown above.

Users should bear in mind that Quality Assessments follow a rolling programme. Some subjects have not been assessed yet and reports from early inspections may not accurately reflect the current state of the course.

More information about QARs can be obtained from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC) or the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).
